alter ego
Since leaving foundation, this is my first personal project, a shoot I completed just for myself, not for someone else, but a topic I wanted to explore. In this photo series, I explored this idea of my alter ego, what I envision a part of me to be, e.g., how I want to dress, act and express myself but that I have to repress because of restraints within myself. Growing up Asian in a predominantly white community, I have ingrained this innate desire to fit in. Dress, act, and be like my white counterparts. As I’ve grown older, I have learned and retaught myself to embrace my identity, yet I still wish I could be something I won’t let myself be. I wanted to create this alter ego character to express myself how I wish I could. The outcome of my idea is a series of three looks consisting of only pieces from my wardrobe styled how I wish I were brave enough to but can’t, so I am showing them on my alter ego
